March – Out About, Trapped In

The Good News

We started the month with some long awaited good news… The Kid got into the High School that we were hoping for. High School! Jeez, it feels like two minutes ago she was taking her first steps and playing tea parties for hours on end. She is growing up too fast, I love seeing the young lady she is turning out to be. At the same time I want to slow her down and keep her a kid for just a little longer.

Here is she, being lovely and toothy and perfect.

Out and About in Heptonstall

We ventured out to a local village that I probably haven’t been to since I was a small child. It is an infamous place, burial place to King David of the Cragg Vale Coiners and resting place of the renowned writer and poet, Sylvia Plath. Heptonstall is a delight of cobbled streets, intriguing history and a café that we will definitely be returning to.

We spent a lovely couple of hours looking over the old and even older churches. There was something eerily beautiful about sitting inside a roofless place of worship, admiring the weathered stone against the backdrop of incredibly blue skies.

There was even a delightful moment when the low sun shone through one stained glass window to light another on the other side of the church from within. It was spiritual, and I felt blessed to have captured it on camera.

Haworth, Harry and Hairy Giants

By sheer luck I spotted an event at Haworth, a day filled with witches and wizards from our favourite franchise. Of course we drove the twelve miles down the road for a visit. I love Haworth anyway, it is a place I absolutely love to be, even more so on event days.

The day was coordinated by Q20 Events and included lookalikes, props and a show in the park hosted by Dumbledore himself! Our most entertaining encounter was with the mighty Hagrid! He was hanging out at the station, making sure that all the visitors were able to navigate Platform 9 and 3/4.

And then we were trapped inside

The kid and I finally caught Covid-19. After two full years of avoidance we were struck down. Working from home, home schooling, both feeling rubbish has taken its toll. We are exhausted both mentally and physically. It has been hard to see her missing school so much and even though I was able to get work done I disliked feeling as if I wasn’t giving 100%.

We did try and find some positives. We played Monopoly for almost a full Saturday, we admired the blossoms that have sprung for Springtime. And we made a start on the 2022 Garden Kitchen, preparing our beans and sowing our potatoes. We plan to have strawberries and tomatoes once more but that is for another weekend when the snow isn’t on the horizon.

So, how has your March been? Have you been able to enjoy your family? Get out and about like we did? Or has this lingering pandemic interfered with your plans?

Love always, Stacy xx
